'Legends never die': Colt Brennan's cousin, football coach writes heartfelt poem

Among those who took the death of former UH star quarterback Colt Brennan the hardest was his cousin Brent, who is now the head football coach at San Jose State.

He says the last 36 hours have been both sad and amazing. Sad of course, because of the death of his cousin, but also amazing because there has been such an outpouring of love and affection for Colt. Brent learned of his passing when he received a text message yesterday morning. He said "I sat in my office and cried and just thought about all the good things that he brought into my life."

Brent is eleven years older than Colt, but the two were still close, sharing a love for football. While an assistant at San Jose state he tried to recruit his cousin before he decided on Hawaii. He said "something about Hawaii spoke to him and I think that's why you saw him flourish there, I think that's why you saw him have this incredible relationship he had with the people and just Hawaii in general, there was something special calling him to the islands."

To help deal with his loss, Brent wrote a poem about Colt yesterday and put it on Twitter. He says "I think the simple lesson for me is when you get a chance to tell someone you love, tell them you love them. You never know what someone's going through, you never know what path they're on".

"I was just trying to wrap my head around how I was feeling and you know that kind of came out of that. You know, I did send it to another Hawaii legend before I posted, Nick Rolovich and he said you got to post this. It's from the heart and it will help the healing," Brennan stated.
