A plan to build a "food hub" in Whitmore Village is facing criticism from some residents in the area.

WHITMORE VILLAGE (KITV4) - A plan to build a "food hub" in Whitmore Village is facing criticism from some residents in the area.

The land along Whitmore Avenue used to be owned by Dole Plantation. Now it is owned by the Agrobusiness Development Corporation.

A number of organizations and leaders want to put in an agricultural park with warehouses and other facilities that they say would support Hawaii's agricultural economy.

Some residents are concerned the increased activity to the area will have an impact on traffic.

On Friday, a listening session was held with members of the community but some feel it should have come a lot sooner.

A statement from ADC reads:

"ADC is currently holding a series of community meetings and presentations on the proposed food hub, which would be beneficial to both local farmers and the surrounding community. We will continue to work with the residents regarding any potential issues related to the proposed facility.”
