UPDATE | A helicopter carrying 6 passengers has crashed on the Big Island, 2 in serious condition

UPDATE 7 p.m.: All six helicopter passengers have been hospitalized.

Two are in serious condition: the 50-year-old pilot and an 18-year-old female passenger. The helicopter is a tour helicopter with Paradise Helicopters. 

"The care of our passengers, crew members, and their families is our highest priority” said Calvin Dorn, of K&S Helicopters, in a statement.


Hawaii County is confirming reports of a helicopter crash on the Big Island. 

The crash occurred Wednesday around 5:30 p.m. in a lava field around the South Point area.

According to reports the helicopter was carrying 6 occupants, and the pilot was reported as trapped inside.

Rescue crews are on scene.
