Friday, July 22 was the deadline for the owner of the license plate that reads "FCKBLM" to surrender it to the City and County of Honolulu.
HONOLULU (KITV4) -- Friday, July 22 was the deadline for the owner of the license plate that reads "FCKBLM" to surrender it to the City and County of Honolulu.
The city told KITV4 that as of Friday, the owner has not surrendered the license plate, and the next step may include filing a lawsuit against him.
KITV4 received a copy of the most recent letter the city's Corporation Counsel sent to the owner, dated June 30, 2022.
The letter states that the wording of the license plate is "publicly objectionable," which is in violation of the rules for having a special number plate.
The letter also states: "You received notice by letter from the Department of Customer Services dated July 6, 2021 that the number plates were recalled and were to be returned as soon as possible, in exchange for another license plate at no charge.
"You failed to comply with the demand. Since then, the registration for your vehicle has expired, and you are not permitted to renew your registration unless the plates are returned.
"The City will take all necessary steps to seize your vehicle, subject to redemption after payment of delinquent taxes, penalties, storage costs and any other charges incident to the seizure."
After the initial notice to the car's registered owner last July, the city followed up with additional messages asking him to return the license plate.
