KAHULUI, Maui (KITV4) - For months, Maui’s main airport has been overwhelmed with departing travelers. Many have been complaining about the long lines and wait times.
On Thursday, state transportation officials introduced some changes to speed things up.
One of those changes — a checkpoint that’s now designated just for pre-check travelers. Officials say the goal is to free up space at general screening to shorten the lines.
There are also two new different machines here at the airport — the first scans carry-on bags and produces 3D X-ray images.
That means travelers can leave their computers and food inside their bags.
The other is a device that scans travelers’ drivers license or other photo identification and matches it with information from an online database — that means you don’t have to show your boarding pass — only that form of identification.
