HONOLULU (KITV4) -- Topgolf is not developing a new location at the Ala Wai Golf Course.
The City and County of Honolulu, which owns the course, confirmed to KITV4 News on Friday that the multinational sports entertainment company decided not to continue to pursue this venture.
The city was interested in working with a private company to provide additional golf recreational opportunities at the Ala Wai Golf Course.

In 2018, a group involving two Honolulu real estate development firms – Kobayashi Group and The MacNaughton Group – formed Topgolf Hawaii in partnership with Topgolf USA.
The group tried to enter into a long-term lease agreement with the city to lease about seven acres that the current Ala Wai Golf Course Driving Range occupies. The project was put on pause during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Topgolf, which has more than 70 locations across the U.S., is a driving range that involves electronically-tracked golf balls that tally your scores on a scoreboard. It also has restaurants and bars.
KITV4 reached out to representatives of Kobayashi Group and Topgolf for comment.
