POSTED: 9:49 am HST September 1, 2006

(Sports Network) - Los Angeles Sparks center Lisa Leslie was elected to her seventh All-WNBA First Team, as the league announced its selections for the First and Second Team on Friday.

Leslie led all vote-getters with a total 278 points, narrowly beating Phoenix Mercury guard Diana Taurasi (276). Leslie led the Sparks to the best record in the Western Conference at 25-9, and also led the league with 17 double-doubles and 240 defensive rebounds. She also ranked second in total rebounds with 323 and third in points with 680.

Taurasi joined the First Team for the second time in her career. She led the league in overall scoring (860) this season and points per game (25.3), both of which are WNBA single-season records.

The Indiana Fever's Tamika Catchings, a three-time First Team selection, and the Seattle Storm's Lauren Jackson, who notched her fourth consecutive appearance on the First Team, rounded out the forwards. Connecticut Sun guard Katie Douglas joined Taurasi in the backcourt with her first All-WNBA honor.

The All-WNBA Second Team was led by Detroit Shock center Cheryl Ford. She was joined by the Connecticut Sun's Taj McWilliams-Franklin and Houston Comets' Sheryl Swoopes at forward. The Washington Mystics' Alana Beard and 2006 Rookie of the Year winner Seimone Augustus, from the Minnesota Lynx, took the guard spots.
