Sutton-Brown, Pondexter Honored As WNBA Players Of The Week

New York, NY -- (Sports Network) - Tammy Sutton-Brown of the Indiana Fever and Cappie Pondexter of the Phoenix Mercury have been named the WNBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week, respectively, for the period ending Sunday, July 5.Sutton-Brown averaged 18.0 points on 52 percent shooting, 11.5 rebounds and 3.0 blocks for the week, helping guide the Fever to wins over Connecticut and Atlanta, while extending the club's win streak to a franchise-best eight straight games. She led the league in rebounding and the Eastern Conference in scoring. This marks her second career weekly award. Pondexter averaged 21.5 points on 51.6 percent shooting, 7.5 rebounds and 6.0 assists as Phoenix went 2-0 for the week. She led the league in scoring for the period and fell two assists shy of a triple-double in a win versus the Storm. She followed that performance by becoming the second-fastest player (107 games; Diana Taurasi, 104 games) in league history to record 2,000 points, 400 rebounds and 400 assists in a career during the Mercury's win over the Sparks. This is her third career weekly honor. Other candidates for WNBA Players of the Week were Atlanta's Sancho Lyttle, Connecticut's Erin Phillips, Los Angeles' DeLisha Milton-Jones, New York's Shameka Christon, Minnesota's Nicky Anosike, Sacramento's Nicole Powell, San Antonio's Sophia Young and Washington's Crystal Langhorne.
