The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a winter weather advisory for the summits of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa until 6 p.m. Saturday.
Forecasters said a slow-moving disturbance east of the Big Island will produce widespread rain and isolated snow showers above the 12,000-foot elevation level.
Snow and ice accumulation of up to one inch and visibility of less than one mile may produce dangerous driving and road conditions.
A winter weather advisory means that periods of snow, sleet or freezing rain will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
