Neoguri Generating U.S. Temperature SwingUPDATED 11:19 PM HST Jul 10, 2014Video Transcript
Tropical Storm Neoguri continues to lose steam off Japan's coast tonight, but its grip may extend far beyond the West Pacific. Moani's back with that in tonight's World Weather Moani? Before Neoguri slammed into Okinawa on Wednesday, the monster storm was a SUPER TYPHOON... Packing winds of more than 150 miles an hour, as seen here from outer space. Even though its fury weakened before side swiping Japan's southern most islands it still delivered a deadly strike. Monster waves roared along the coast--- and heavy rains and strong winds whipped cutting power for thousands. Neoguri took a direct hit on Japan's main islands, unleashing major flooding and deadly landslides. A house in Nagano prefecture SWEPT away, killing a 12 year old boy. At last check Tropical Storm Neoguri is hovering off Central Japan's coast tonight. Even though the worst might be over----the storm's impacts may affect conditions halfway around the globe, for folks on the U.S. mainland. Remember the size of Neoguri earlier in the week? well typhoons that large can push the jet stream much farther north. The dip in the jet will allow temperatures to build WELL above normal in the western half of the country and cooler than normal in the midwest and northeast. The unseasonable warm up and cool down expected as early as Monday.
