About 15,000 homes on the Big Island remain without power.
The outages are affecting most of the Puna area, Kalopa-Paauilo, Kulani and surrounding areas and Pahala and surrounding areas.
Hawaii Electric Light says to expect extended power outages as crews work to restore power and fix damaged transmission lines.
Officials say outages could last throughout the weekend and possible longer for those in the lower Puna area.
"We're working into the night to continue restoring customers, but given the potential for some to be out of power for a very long time, we wanted to give folks as much time as possible to plan," said Jay Ignacio, president of Hawaii Electric Light.
"In addition to our crews who have been working around the clock, we're bringing in additional crews from Oahu and possibly Maui to mobilize the most resources possible," said Ignacio.
At the height of the storm, about 25,000 Big Island homes lost power.
