Flood advisory posted for Oahu until 6:30 p.m.

 UPDATED 3:41 PM HST Sep 30, 2013

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the island of Oahu until 6:30 p.m.

At 3:19 p.m., radar showed heavy rain near Waianae, or about 21 miles northwest of Honolulu.  The area of heavy rain was nearly stationary, according to forecasters.

Additional areas of heavy rain are developing near Pearl Harbor, Waipahu, central areas of the Koolau Mountains, and Windward Oahu.

Stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying area prone to flooding.

Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle or on foot.
