HONOLULU -

The National Weather Service has posted a flash flood watch for the island of Kauai until 6 a.m. Tuesday.

A flood advisory for the island was cancelled at 10 p.m. Monday.

Heavy or persistent rains will cause streams to rise, even in areas where rain is not occurring, according to forecasters. Heavy rain will produce slick roadways and reduce visibility, making driving hazardous.

A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding. Forecasters remind everyone that it does not have to be raining heavily where you are for flash flooding to occur. They advise people on Kauai to avoid camping or hiking near streams and low-lying flood-prone areas and to monitor the latest forecasts and be prepared to take immediate action if flash flood warnings are issued.
