Flash flood warning, watch cancelled for Kauai

Hanalei Elem. to reopen on Thursday

The National Weather Service cancelled a flash flood warning for the island of Kauai at 2:04 p.m. Wednesday.

A flash flood watch for Kauai has also been cancelled.

Hanalei Elementary School was closed on Wednesday due to dangerous road conditions and the closure of the Hanalei Bridge.  The school will be open on Thursday.

One lane of Kuhio Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Bridge is now open, and traffic in the area is being controlled by police officers.

A water conservation notice has been issued for Hanalei, as Department of Water crews work to identify the reason for low water pressure in the area.

Green waste is currently not being accepted at all refuse transfer stations except for Hanapepe. Additionally, the Kapa'a transfer station is not accepting scrap metal and appliances.

The state Department of Health issued a brown water advisory Wednesday morning urging the public to stay out of flood waters and storm water run-offs.
