Big Island Hit By Heavy Rains, Strong Winds

The National Weather Service on Sunday expanded a flash flood watch originally for the Big Island to Maui County and Oahu.

The flash flood watch is set to last through the afternoon.

The Big Island saw heavy rains throughout Saturday, particularly the Hilo side of the island.

Forecasters said conditions are favorable for heavy rainfall.

Rain fell at a rate of 2-inches per hour on Kealakekua on the Big Island on Sunday. Some residents reported instances of hail falling.
