The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended a flash flood watch for all islands until 6 a.m. on Sunday.

There are more isolated heavy showers and potential thunderstorms forecast for the entire state.

Forecasters said while the low pressure system responsible for this week's wet and windy weather is slowly drifting north and away from the state, it is still drawing moist tropical air over the islands.

Some of the heavier showers may cause problems in areas already saturated from heavy rains earlier this week.

In the 24-hour period ending at 5 a.m. on Saturday, parts of Kauai saw more than 5 inches of rain, up-country Maui saw more than 3 inches and Kapapala Ranch on the Big Island received more than 9 inches of rain.

Forecasters said that the threat of heavy rain and flash floods will start to diminish after noon and improve into the night.

The National Weather Service has also issued a wind advisory for the summits of Maui and the Big Island. That means there will be winds of 30-39 mph with higher gusts.

While rain tapered off somewhat, the National Weather Service continued a flood flash warning for parts of the Kau District of the Big Island until 1 p.m. Saturday.

Big Island police reported the Mamalahoa Highway near mile marker 59 in the Kawa Flats area was closed because of flooding.

Even though the showers have become lighter in the area, storm runoff was continuing to cause problems.
