A humpback whale put on a surprise show when it leaped out of water right next to unsuspecting kayakers.

Many had set aside their "Free Willy" collection and instead flocked the waters of California to have a glimpse of endangered whales. But among them, a mom and a daughter, on a kayaking trip in Port San Luis in Avila Beach, were lucky enough to have an extreme close encounter with the giant mammal.

While the mother was recording her daughter on a kayak and with a flock of seagulls flying above her, the humpback whale suddenly breached out of water to feed. The mother could only scream in shock.

The whale decided to double the treat by again lunging out of water, almost knocking the mom's kayak out. Though the two knew that they narrowly missed becoming whale food, they still admitted that the encounter was the best moment in their lives.

The video has been viewed more than 100,000 times since it was posted on YouTube.
