'Kokoro: Hearts Across The Pacific' wins third award
KITV won the 2012 National Edward R. Murrow award for Video News Documentary in the Television Small Market category for "Kokoro: Hearts Across The Pacific"; Lara Yamada and photographer Rex Von Arnswaldt’s hour-long special. The documentary focused on how Hawaii helped make a difference in the aftermath of Japan’s disaster.
KITV President and General Manager Andrew Jackson said, "This is exactly the kind of programming that we feel as broadcasters; adds value to the Hawaii community. We’re so proud of Lara and Rex."
KITV News Director Chuck Parker added, "We knew Lara and Rex put together an excellent show. This award validates that."
This is the third award for "Kokoro: Hearts Across The Pacific" -- it has already won a Mark Twain award from the Associated Press and a regional Edward R. Murrow for Video News Documentary in a small market.
This makes six awards in total for KITV this year. In addition to Kokoro’s awards, KITV has also won an Emmy for Evening Newscast in a Medium Market and two other Mark Twain awards; The Best 60 minute news broadcast and the Bill Stout Memorial Award for spot news.
