HONOLULU -- The readers of Travel and Leisure Magazine ranked Kauai and Maui among the best islands in the world to visit.
Kauai Mayor Bryan Baptiste said the honor is a reflection of the residents and the aloha they share with visitors.
Travel and Leisure asked its readership during the first quarter of 2006 to judge the world's best islands based on natural attractions, activities, restaurants, people and value.
In the overall listing of the world's best islands, Kauai was ranked No. 2 behind Indonesia's Bali and ahead of Maui followed by Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia; Mount Desert Island, Maine; Tasmania; the Big Island of Hawaii; Galapagos Islands; Santorini and Phuket, Thailand.
