Disney on Tuesday announced it has named its Ko Olina facility the Aulani, a Disney Resort and Spa.

The property is part of the company's 21-acre next to the Ihilani Resort and Spa. Disney broke ground on the 481-room Disney Vacation Club villas type location. (Images: Disney Ko Olina Resort)

"We want this resort destination to reflect the vibrant culture that surrounds it. The name 'Aulani' expresses a connection to tradition and deep story-telling -- and its roots are here in this land," Walt Disney Imagineering Creative Senior Vice President Joe Rohde said.

Aulani means "the place that speaks for the great ones" or "the place that speaks with deep messages," according to Disney.

Drawings of the facility feature Hawaii-inspired designs and decorations.
