HONOLULU -- Mesa Air Group, the parent company of Go Airlines, has settled a lawsuit Friday with Aloha Airlines, and the company is seeking to obtain the rights to the Aloha Airlines name.Mesa said it plans to roll out the Aloha logo on its ticket counters and jets within 90 days, KITV's Jill Kuramoto reported."It's all about business in the end. We have removed a lot of uncertainty from our business by settling this out of court, and now, maintaining our focus on what we do best, which is running a great operation with convenient schedules and the lowest fares in Hawaii," Go Airlines spokesman Paul Skellon said.In addition to acquiring the name, Mesa agreed to pay $2 million to Aloha's biggest shareholder, Yucaipa Co. Mesa also agreed to issue common stock equaling 10 percent of its current outstanding shares and will provide certain interisland travel benefits to former Aloha employees. The acquisition of Aloha's name is contingent on an auction and hearing next week in Federal Bankruptcy Court. Skellon said the company considers it a done deal. The settlement comes seven months after Aloha went bankrupt, forcing more than 3,500 out of a job, many of whom remain unemployed, Kuramoto reported.Go currently flies five 50-seater regional jets and employs about 200 people. The company said it intends to carry on Aloha's tradition and would consider hiring former airlines employees as the company expands."Our position is that this is a very positive thing for the future and growth of our organization, our airline here in Hawaii, and presents opportunities for us to grow, add new routes and also go transpacific to the mainland," Skellon said. The former Aloha employees with whom KITV spoke said they feel the deal is "disgusting" and a slap in the face.Hawaiian Airlines offered a statement, saying, "We are not going to speculate about the potential outcome of these legal matters."
