City officials on Wednesday announced it has a draft plan for bicycle transportation on Oahu available for people to read and make input on.

The plan is designed to improve safety and accessibility for bicycle riders, city officials said.

"The plan covers the entire island of Oahu and provides recommendations to improve the integration of bicycles into the City and County of Honolulu's existing and future transportation system, to guide Oahu in becoming a more bicycle-friendly community," Mayor Mufi Hannemann said.

The plan looks at promoting programs and including bicycles as part of the island's transportation future. The plan includes bikeway projects needed to create an integrated bikeway network.

You can read details about the plan at OahuBikePlan.org.

The public can comment on the project at the Web site until Aug. 31.
