HONOLULU - A male surfer in his 40s was found unresponsive in the waters at Ehukai on O'ahu's North Shore around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.

Surfers pulled him out of the water and performed CPR. Honolulu firefighters and an off-duty Ocean Safety lifeguard continued onshore. 

Shortly after, Honolulu Emergency Medical Services arrived and continued to perform advanced life-saving treatment. 

EMS transported him to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Surf at Ehukai ranged from 3-5 feet.

Lifeguards at Ehukai start their shift until 9 a.m.
