More names for Fissure 8 have been submitted to the State Board of Geographic Names.

A group of Puna residents claiming long genealogical ties to the area proposed  Ahu'aila'au.

'Aila'au was the name of the volcanic diety that predated Pele.

Other suggestions include Keahi-lapalapa, taken from a contemporary Hawaiian song and Pu'u O Luku or hill of destruction.

Last year two names were submitted Pu'u Leilani and Keahi-luawalu O Pele.

No word yet on when the Board will choose an official name.
