The 2019 Sony Open features one of the best groups of golfers in the tournament's history with the likes of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Patrick Reed, and Bubba Watson. It is an experience that gives Hawaii golf fans a chance to get up-close and personal with some of the best in the sport but also a spectacular opportunity for the 808's rising stars to take a step forward in their careers with an opportunity to play on the PGA level. 

A handful of local talent earned the chance to play in this year's Sony Open including Peter Jung, Brent Grant, and Jared Sawada after finishing top three in Monday's qualifier. 

Grant is a 2014 Moanalua grad and making his second appearance in the tournament after last year qualifying as an amateur. In Thursday's first round he shot a 2-over 72 to finish tied for 112th.

Sawada graduated from Mililani High School back in 2008 and then played four years of golf for the Rainbow Warriors. Thursday he also shot a 2-over 72 to finish tied for 112th. 

Jung is currently a junior at Maryknoll school and after winning Monday's qualifier he shot a 14-over 84 in his first round coming at at 144th.
