Lynda Lopez reported - We have all heard the phrase breast is best, and the list of benefits for growing babies is certainly long. According to a recent study, moms might be able to add a benefit to their own list.

Researchers followed almost 700 women over a span of 7 to 15 years to find that the women who breastfed their babies for 6 months or longer saw their waist shrink 4.5 centimeters more than the women who did not breastfeed their babies.

The women who breastfed were also more likely to have smaller hip circumferences and lower blood pressures 10 years later.

Beyond looking good, avoiding the accumulation of fat around the abdomen has been linked to a lower risk of diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.

Breastfeeding, for moms who are able to, may be one additional way to keep all of these chronic illnesses at bay.
