Patient units at Kona Community Hospital closed to visitors amid scabies outbreak
Kona Community Hospital closed all patient units to visitors Thursday as an "aggressive" measure to protect patients and staff from potential exposure to infection.
According to the hospital, employees are informing patients of the new protocol, staff is also contacting each patient's appointed primary contact to explain the situation.
There are exceptions for some patients on the Obstetrics unit and for the pediatric surgery patients.
All outpatient services will remain open.
The scabies outbreak at Kona Community Hospital was confirmed on November 19th when a number of individuals reported that they were experiencing similar symptoms.
