Heavy rain and steep terrain turned the rescue of two opihi pickers into a dangerous three and a half hour mission.

The men ran into trouble in the Waipunalei area of Laupahoehoe on the Big Island after scaling down a 100 foot cliff.

Hawaii county firefighters were called to bring them out.

The rescue started at 1 a.m. Sunday.

Crews were able to successfully bring the men out uninjured at 4:40 am.
