UH Manoa honored veterans at a special ceremony
The keynote speaker at the event was Major General Suzanne Vares-Lum.
Veterans Day is Sunday but the University of Hawaii at Manoa held a special ceremony Thursday. They honored veterans including 16 student-veterans who received scholarships to pursue a higher education in nursing at UH Manoa or Kapiolani Community College.
"The first year of this program that I'm in now, is 49 credits, so it's $1,000 a credit, that's a lot of money so this scholarship means a lot to me," Chris Sellman, pursuing his PhD in nursing, said.
The keynote speaker at today's event was Major General Suzanne Vares-Lum. The first female major general of Native Hawaiian ancestry in the U.S. Army and the first female UH ROTC graduate to achieve the rank of general officer.
She's also a UH Manoa alum.
