Po'ipu Beach Park saying bye bye to butts, now tobacco-free
The park is completely tobacco-free, including e-cigarettes.
POIPU, Hawaii - Po'ipu Beach Park on Kaua'i is now tobacco-free!
Mayor Bernard Carvalho, Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawaii and community partners announced the park is completely tobacco-free, including e-cigarettes. Signs and stickers have been posted alerting the public.
“Today we celebrate the health and wellness of our community, as we work in partnership to promote a tobacco-free and smoke-free beach park here in Po'ipu,” said Mayor Carvalho. “This step is in the right direction for the general health of our community, and ensures a healthy future for all.”
The park is the second on Kaua'i to prohibit tobacco use -- Lydgate Park started the movement back in 2016.
“Common sense tells us that tobacco use has no place in an environment that offers playgrounds, pavilions for family gatherings, and open fields,” said Valerie Saiki, Kaua‘i coalition coordinator for the Coalition for a Tobacco-Free Hawai‘i. “Tobacco-free parks model healthy behaviors for our children.”
