5-year-old girl hit and killed by garbage truck at Aliamanu Military Reservation
The incident happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday.
OAHU, Hawaii - A young girl was run over and killed by a garbage truck right in front of her home Wednesday afternoon.
The incident happened at the Aliamanu Military Reservation. The quiet community located between the Moanalua Freeway and Salt Lake Boulevard.
The child was identified by the Honolulu Medical Examiner's office as Preslee Dulaney.
According to police, the 5-year-old was riding her bicycle just in front of her home when a refuse truck nearby had started reversing.
Witnesses say the child rode out of her driveway into the path of the truck just before getting hit.
Police pronounced Dulaney dead at the scene.
The company involved is West Oahu Aggregate.
A company spokesperson sending their condolences to the Dulaney family.
The company says it is cooperating with the Honolulu Police Department during its investigation.
The truck involved does have a back-up camera on it and the company says the driver also had a spotter working with him.
The company told KITV4 "it is just a tragic event."
Meanwhile, the Army reports the child is a dependent of a military service member.
