HONOLULU - Duolingo, Kanaeokana and Kamehameha Schools have teamed up to launch a free virtual Hawaiian language course.

“Our language is our foundation, but it is also the language of this land, and everyone, Hawaiian or not, can connect to the 'aina more deeply through it,” said Keiki Kawai'ae'a, a Hawaiian language expert

With over 300 million users about the world, Duolingo is the most popular language-learning platform in the world. Now, you can use the platform to speak the language native to the Aloha State.

“Duolingo’s course allows 'ohana to build a connection to 'olelo Hawai'i whenever and wherever they can,” said Poki'i Seto, a member of the development team.

Kawai'ae'a also said that the course is not meant to replace classes, but rather make the language more accessible.
