County and Red Cross open shelters on Maui for Olivia evacuees

HONOLULU (KITV) -

Maui County and the Red Cross are opening emergency evacuation centers on Maui Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. 

The list of shelters are as follows:

  • Maui High School (pet friendly)
  • Kihei Elementary School (pet friendly)
  • Kalama Intermediate School (pet friendly)
  • Hana Elementary & High School 
  • Molokai High School
  • Lanai Elementary & High School
  • Lahaina Civic Center

Smoking and drinking alcohol is not permitted at any of the evacuation centers or in their parking lots. 

Pets staying in pet-friendly shelters must be in a carrier or cage. Owners must also provide food and water for their pets.

Food, water and blankets will not be provided, shelter evacuees must bring their own. 

The county is urging people to stay with family and friends outside of hazard areas whenever possible, and use shelters as a last resort.
