HONOLULU (KITV) - A suspect is in custody after the University of Hawaii at Hilo received a report of someone threatening gun violence on campus.

UH Hilo and the Hawaii Police Department have identified the source of the possible threat, and have given the all clear for the campus to return to normal operations after being under lockdown for about 30 minutes. Students were notified via email.

Kanaiela DeCoito, studying Fire Science at Hilo Community College, had a class on the UH Hilo campus during the incident.

"Once I realized it was real, then that thought came to my mind, 'this is serious,' and just think about what to do in that situation," said DeCoito.

DeCoito said he knew how to react from practicing high school lockdown drills.

All schools in the Waiakea area, including Waiakea High, Intermediate, and Elementary have resumed class as well.

More details to come as they surface.
