The sport of surfing is one of the fastest growing in the world right now and its about to make history.

The World Surf League is announcing that, equal prize money will be awarded to both male and female competitors starting from 2019. Surfing is slated to be part of the Olympics for the first time ever in Tokyo 2020.

WSL Champion Kelly Slater said, "overall I'm proud of our sport for doing this and setting this example I hope other sports follow suit. I think it's something we're all going to appreciate in the long run. I hope one day we can look back and say surfing was the first to do that and now it's happening in every sport."
