(US Tennis Association Hawaii Pacific) - The Tennis Championships of Honolulu (TCOH) continued Wednesday, completing all first round matches of the main draw. Nearly all top seeded players in both singles and doubles advanced into the next round.
Top seed Nao Hibino of Japan won her match against Australia’s Olivia Tjandramulia in a heated 3-set battle, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. American Grace Min, the no. 2 seed who holds a U.S. Open Junior Girls’ Singles title, won her match decisively in two straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Another Japanese player, fifth-seed Misaki Doi, also advanced to the next round after her win against Julia Elbaba (USA), 6-2, 6-2.
The only singles upset of the day came from Jessica Pegula (USA) defeating her compatriot Ashley Kratzer, the no. 3 seed of the tournament, 3-6, 6-0, 6-2. On the doubles side, the all-American team Taylor Johnson and Ashley Lahey upset Hibino and her partner Jacqueline Cako (USA) following a 10-point tiebreaker in the third set, 6-3, 4-6, 7-10.
