(Hawaii Athletics) - Former Rainbow Wahine indoor and beach volleyball All-American Emily Maglio has made the Canadian national indoor women's volleyball team and is competing this week at the Pan American Cup tournament in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Maglio has helped Team Canada sweep through Pool A with a 3-0 record to advance straight to the semifinals on Friday, July 13.
Maglio is one of four middle hitters on the squad. In three matches, she has notched 29 points to average 9.6 points per match. In Canada's opening match against Peru, she recorded 12 points as Canada recorded the sweep (25-21, 25-12, 25-17). She followed that performance by leading her team with five blocks and finished with 11 points as Canada dominated Costa Rica in straight sets (25-10, 25-10, 25-7). On Tuesday, Canada swept the host team, Dominican Republic (25-23, 25-14, 25-20), who is ranked No. 9 in the FIVB world rankings. In the final game of pool play, Maglio contributed six points en route to the win.
At Hawai'i, Maglio earned four letters for the women's indoor volleyball team and three on the beach volleyball team. On the indoor team, Maglio became just the 13th middle hitter in UH history to earn AVCA All-America honors (second team) as a senior and All-American honorable mention honors as a junior. She was named to the all-Big West First team three time. On the beach volleyball team, Maglio was a two-time All-American.
