A crash that killed an elderly woman and injured two other pedestrians in Chinatown is still being investigated.
HONOLULU - A crash that killed an elderly woman and injured two other pedestrians in Chinatown is still being investigated.
Around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, Beretania Street was closed from Maunakea to River Street for several hours after police say a 56-year-old woman in a Toyota ran a red light, hit three people in a crosswalk, then crashed into a BMW.
The driver of the Toyota was arrested.
"They came from this lane, ran the red light and hit the people on the other side in the crosswalk," said Francis Wong, Owner of Jenny's Lei Shop.
"There was a woman that was pinned between the two cars. And her legs were like all out," said another witness.
The 69-year-old woman pinned-died at the scene.
Emergency Medical Services says the two other victims-a woman in her 60s was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and a man in his 60s in serious condition.
The driver has been released from police custody while the investigation continues.
