Heartbreak for one member of the "Hawaiian wave" expected to take over Las Vegas next week during International Fight Week.

Makaha's Yancy Medeiros is out of his scheduled welterweight bout against Mike Perry for UFC 226 due to a rib injury.

A UFC official on Thursday told Island Sports that Medeiros (15-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) won’t be able to compete against Perry (11-3 MMA, 4-3 UFC) because of that injury.

According to Medeiros, he got back his x-ray results on Wednesday and was told he would be out about 4-6 weeks.

Yancy will now be replaced by Paul Felder to take on Mike Perry in the welterweight bout on nine days notice.

UFC 226, headlined by Stipe Miocic vs. Daniel Cormier for the UFC heavyweight title, takes place July 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Waianae's Max Holloway will try to defend his UFC featherweight title against Brian Ortega in the co-main event.

Thursday night's TUF Finale features two Hawaii fighters, Rachel Ostovich and Brad Tavares.
