The 39th U.S. Senior open qualifier was held Monday at Waialae Country Club. Two newly renovated greens, #1 and #9, challenged the players, including the Waialae CC members that were qualifying.
The wind was breezy with gusts up to 30 mph from multiple directions, greens were rolling beautifully fast and an occasional shower made conditions very challenging. Two players finished at 2 over par 74 and Waialae’s own member and professional golfer Stan Souza won on the 1st playoff hole. Stan had his son Chris caddying for him.
Stan qualifies to play in the U.S. Senior Open at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs, Colorado on June 27- July 1st and has a long list of accomplishments in golf as he is one of 5 Hawaii golfers to play in the Masters at Augusta National.
