(Hawaii Athletics) - One Rainbow Wahine advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday, May 24, 2018 as two University of Hawai'i track and field athletes competed in their first, and only day at the NCAA West Preliminary Round at Hornet Stadium.

"Great result for Lily," first-year head coach Tim Boyce said. "She did what she needed to advance to Eugene. Extremely happy for her and excited for her opportunity to do well there."

Taking in her second career Regional and making her first qualification for Nationals, Murray, Ky. sophomore Lily Lowe finished in a tie for seventh in the high jump, matching height with the six performers ranked above her at 5-10.75 (1.80m). She will move on to the NCAA Championships on June 6-9 in Eugene, Ore. and remains tied for eighth in the national rankings.

Also appearing in her second Regional, Welland, Ontario sophomore Alexis Brenzil was not able to make the field to move on to Eugene, finishing 40th in the javelin throw with a toss of 135-7 (41.34m).

"It was an off-day for Alexis, but I'm very proud of the season she and the other throwers had in the first year under coach Mandy [Federici]".

Although the Rainbow Wahine are done for the weekend, the NCAA Preliminary Rounds extend competition through Saturday before the field for the NCAA Finals is formally set. The women's high jump in Eugene is scheduled for Saturday, June 9 at 12:00 p.m. HT (3:00 p.m. PT) at historic Hayward Field.
