NFL players are forced to choose

The new NFL National Anthem policy insists that players on the field must stand for the anthem or the team will be fined.

The NFL addressing the controversy over national anthem protests announcing a new policy.

"If anyone is on the field and is disrespectful to the anthem or the flag uh there will be a fine from the league against the team
Goodell said.

Under the new rules players may stay in the locker room during the star spangled banner but if they are on the field, they must stand, or the team could face fines.
"We want people uh to be respectful of the National Anthem. We want people to stand," Goodell said.

The rule change coming two years after former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick first started kneeling to protest racial inequality and police brutality

Goodell calling the unanimous vote by team owners - a compromise - but the NFL player's association says it was not consulted on this change.

Many players support this decision. But others are troubled by it. Cleveland Browns quarterback Tyrod Tayler said "to make a decision that strong, you would hope that the players have input on it. but obviously not." the players union says it's ready to challenge this.
