Department of Transportation renames gates and baggage claims at Daniel K. Inouye Airport
Flying out of Honolulu this summer? Get ready for some changes at the airport.
Effective June 1st , the Department of Transportation is renaming gates and baggage claims at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.
The project is part of a three billion dollar modernization plan that includes electrical and structural upgrades.
Renaming gates and baggage claims will help accommodate future expansion and additional gates.
"The airlines are not changing locations the flights are still going to stay in that same area, the only real difference is now that the gate number is going to have a new number. The number system are adopting is the way that majority of mainland airports with its alpha numeric system," Tim Sakahara of the Department of Transportation said.
The Department of Transportation will replace more than three thousand signs in and around the airport.
That part of the project is expected to be complete by next summer.
