Mike Darrah always heard great things about Hawaii from his father, who grew up here. So when he was offered a chance to move here himself, Mike jumped at the opportunity, packed up his family, and moved to Windward Oahu. Now he gets to manage a talented and dedicated KITV newsroom, while taking every opportunity to learn about Hawaii, its people, and its unique way of life. What an experience!
Mike’s TV news career has taken him from Lubbock, TX to Ft. Myers, FL, and then to a long run in Orlando, FL. That means he has experience with dust storms, hurricanes, wildfires, space shuttle triumphs/tragedies, along with covering major sporting events, theme parks, and alligator mating seasons (don’t ask!).
His wife manages an area Starbucks, and his two kids went to Kalaheo High School. His son attends Virginia Tech, his daughter plans to go to Windward Community College and then UH Manoa.
Mike and his family can usually be found on Windward beaches paddleboarding or playing fetch in the surf with their Lab, Yogi.
Mike is also a big sports fan and will gladly tell you why his New York Yankees are the best sports franchise ever. If you want to shut him up, ask him how many Super Bowls his beloved Minnesota Vikings have won!
Mike is thrilled to lead the Island News team, has tremendous respect for Hawaii, and welcomes your input!
