UH Softball Drops Season Finale Doubleheader

(HAWAII ATHLETICS) —The University of Hawai'i softball team (23-27, 7-14 Big West) dropped both games of Saturday's season-ending doubleheader at UC Davis' La Rue Field. The Aggies held off the Rainbow Wahine off the scoreboard in both games, winning the first game 6-0 and the series finale, 5-0. UC Davis finishes the season with a 27-24 overall record and a 9-12 mark in the Big West.

UC Davis took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning on an RBI single by Aly Gomonet that scored Isabella Leon who led off the inning with a double.
The Aggies then rallied on two outs to score five runs in the fifth. UCD's scoring outburst was highlighted by a three-run home run by Leon that gave UC Davis a 6-0 lead.
In both the fifth and sixth innings, Hawai'i loaded the bases with two outs but were unable to push a run across the plate. UH had at least one runner on base in every inning but the third and seventh.
UH starter Dana Thomsen (15-16) took the loss in a complete game effort. She allowed six runs on seven hits with a walk and six strikeouts in 4.2 innings. Emily Klee got the final four outs of the game. She did not allow a hit or a run but issued one walk.
UCD's Katie Kibby (11-10) also threw a complete game earning the win. She shut out the 'Bows while giving up three hits with four walks and strike outs.

UC Davis stymied the Rainbow Wahine offense all game, not allowing any UH player to get to second base. Brooke Yanez scattered four hits while striking out seven in the win to improve to 15-11 this year.
The Aggies got off to a quick start scoring three runs in the first and two in the second for what turned out to be the final score of 5-0. Ashley Lotoszynski launched a two run home run in the first inning.
Hawai'i went through three pitchers in the game. Rookie Klee got the start, but was able to only get one out in the first inning. She took the loss, dropping her record to 2-2 overall after she gave up three runs on two hits with a walk. Dominique Martinez threw the next 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on three hits. Thomsen then closed the game, throwing the final 4.0 innings. She spaced four hits and did not allow a run while striking out a pair of Aggies.
It was the fourth Big West series in which the 'Bows won the series' opener on Friday, but went on to drop both games of Saturday's doubleheader. It is the third time in the last five seasons that UH has ended with an overall losing record.
