(Hawaii Athletics) - The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball duo of Brett Rosenmeier and Colton Cowell won both of their pool play matches on the first day of the USAV Collegiate Beach Championships.
The pair were seeded No. 2 in Pool B and needed three sets to win both of their matches. In the opener, the duo rallied for a 17-21, 21-7, 15-8 victory over Quincy's Collin Merk and Anthony Winter and then held on for a 21-14, 19-21, 15-12 win over Florida State's Jon Justice and Adam Wienckowski in the pool championship match.
Rosenmeier and Cowell advance to Friday's semifinals and will meet the winner of Penn State's Will Bantle/Matt McLaren and Quincy's Merk/Winter. The semifinal match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. HT.

In Pool A, the team of Robert Mullahey and Owen Yoshimoto of Pepperdine came out on top after a pair of wins and advance to Friday's semifinals as the No. 1 seeded team. They will face either FSU's Justice/Wienckowski or UC Irvine's Dante Chakrovorti and Grant Friedman.
If Rosenmeier and Cowell win their semifinal match, they advance to Saturday's finals which will be televised nationally on NBCSN on a delayed basis. The championship match is scheduled for 8:20 a.m. HT. A loss would send them to the third place match also on Saturday beginning at 6:00 a.m. HT.
