(HAWAII ATHLETICS) —The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (13-6, 6-2 Big West) will be travelling to Stanford, Calif. for its second-ever appearance in the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships. The Rainbow Wahine will face Big Ten tourney champions, 23rd-ranked Michigan (17-9, 10-1 Big Ten) in the first round on May 11, 2018. Host school and No. 13-seed, Pac-12 champions Stanford (18-3, 9-0 Pac-12) will meet the Big East champions St. John's (17-5, 4-1 Big East) in the other match on Friday. The two winners will meet in the second round on Saturday.

The 'Bows punched their NCAA tourney ticket after winning their first ever Big West Tournament this past Sunday at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden. Hawai'i, the No. 4 seed, upset top-seeded UC Santa Barbara in the semifinals in a marathon match, 4-3. UH then claimed the title with a 4-2 win over the No. 3 seeded Cal State Fullerton. After falling twice to UCSB in the BWC Championship match the last two years, the 'Bows finally broke through to capture the school's first ever Big West Tourney title. It is however the second conference tournament title that UH has won. Hawai'i won the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) crown in 2012.
