Donation drive helps Hawaii Food Bank

Helping to feed Hawaii's people. That's what members of the Honolulu Fire Department, Honolulu Police Department, and various Honolulu City and County staff members did at Honolulu Hale on Saturday morning.

Volunteers - including firefighters from 43 fire stations- filled up this historic red fire truck with items collected from staff members as well as the community. More than 1,600 pounds of food was collected at Honolulu Hale that will go straight to the Hawaii Foodbank to help feed those in need.

City and County of Honolulu deputy managing director Georgette Deemer says, "It's an opportunity for us to recognize how many of our neighbors need food.  So many of us take food for granted. We really are pleased to help out."

More than 100,000 households and over 250,000 individuals have benefited from the Foodbank's network of food pantries and meal programs. Last year's Hawaii Foodbank food drive helped gather over 1.5 million meals to help feed people across the state.
