Case dismissed for the man who catapulted the state into adding Hawaiian interpreters

Posted: Updated:

The "Disorderly Conduct" charge against Samuel Kaleikoa Kaeo was dismissed with prejudice this week, because a representative from the Department of Land and Natural Resources did not show up in court.

Kaeo was one of six people arrested protesting a telescope atop Haleakala on Maui.

Kaeo's case gained popularity because he refused to address a judge in English, instead choosing only to speak in Hawaiian language.

Since then, the state's started the process to change it's policies adding Hawaiian interpreters.
