No. 6 UH Men's Volleyball Hosts No. 1 Long Beach State To Close Out Regular Season

Posted: Updated:

(Hawaii Athletics) - The sixth-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team closes out the regular season with the anticipated showdown against No. 1 Long Beach State, Friday, April 13 and Saturday, April 14 in a two-match Big West Conference series at the Stan Sheriff Center.

UH will honor two seniors following Saturday's match — libero Larry Tuileta and defensive specialist Mamane Namahoe. Since transferring from USC, "Tui" has appeared in 55 matches with 412 career digs and a 2.31 digs per set average. The Honolulu, O'ahu native has mainly served as the team's libero but has also seen action at outside hitter. Namahoe, a junior in eligibility, will graduate and not return next season. In three seasons at UH, the Hilo, Hawai'i native has appeared as a defensive specialist in 29 matches with six career starts at libero.

The Rainbow Warriors (17-6, 5-3 BWC) enter the series having won their last four matches, including a first-ever road sweep at UC Santa Barbara last week while the 49ers (23-0, 8-0) swept a two-match series with UC San Diego.

With the Beach already locking up the regular season title and No. 1 seed in the inaugural BWC Tournament, this week's matches mean more to the Warriors for seeding purposes at next week's tournament held in Long Beach, Calif. Currently UH and UC Irvine are tied for second place in the standings.

UH and LBSU were picked to finish 1-2 in the preseason rankings. The Beach have won the last five meetings in the series including all three last season. The teams met in last year's Mountain Pacific Sports Federation championship match, which the 49ers won in four sets.
